Dead or Alive 6 releases later today, punching onto the scene with some of its more lewd aspects a little more tastefully covered up than normal. But before you get your hands on it yourself, it’s time to check out what the critics thought of it.
In our own Dead or Alive 6 review, Jack came away pretty impressed. Yes, the slightly pervy aspects are still in place if you go looking for them, but “leaving the game’s juvenile obsessions aside, and Dead or Alive 6 represents a surprisingly complete fighting package. Team Ninja has built an accessible alternative to the genre’s hardcore ringleaders, but one that offers a great deal more depth than you might expect.”
That’s a sentiment that seems to have been echoed elsewhere, with a string of positive reviews. At time of writing, Dead or Alive 6 boasts a score of 80 on Metacritic (for PS4), an average score which jumps even higher on OpenCritic, topping out at 83.
Without further ado, let’s check out those scores:
Eurogamer – Unscored
PCGamesN – 9/10
TheSixthAxis – 7/10
Twinfinite – 4.5/5
Digitally Downloaded – 5/5
GamingBolt 9/10
PC Invasion 3.5/5
There’s a reasonable spread of scores there, but for the most part, things seem pretty positive. There’s still the hurdle of some of those outfit options to get over, but below the surface is what sounds like an extremely accomplished fighting game.

If you prefer your fighting games more bloody than horny, Mortal Kombat 11 releases next month. Sadly, it won’t have Shaggy in it, but you can be pretty sure that the fatalities in the series’ next outing will be as gory as ever.
