Crimson Days is now live in Destiny 2: celebrate Valentine’s the Guardian way

Valentine’s Day is all the rage, both in real life and digital worlds. This week sees the debut of Crimson Days in Destiny 2; Bungie’s sci-fi version of Earth’s traditional romance holiday. Starting February 13, the weeklong event focuses on a new 2v2 Crucible playlist, and offers its rewards primarily through a new Crimson Engram that can only be earned through gameplay.

Here’s how Destiny 2’s Dawning event worked.

Destiny 2 Crimson Days launch and finish times

Crimson Days starts on February 13 and continues all week, concluding at Tuesday morning’s weekly reset on February 20.

How to compete

Upon logging into Destiny 2 for the first time during the Crimson Days event, you will be provided with the “Welcome to Crimson Days” milestone. This grants access to the Crimson Days Crucible playlist, which forms the core of the event.

Crimson Days is based around a PvP playlist that utilises a “round-based twist” on 2v2 Clash. The event also sees the debut of The Burnout, a new version of The Burning Shrine set in a future Vex-altered timeline. The mode sees your abilities recharge faster when you are close to your partner, and your enemies are alerted to your location if you stray too far away. If you don’t have a friend (or lover) to couple up with, you can also matchmake into games.

Competing in the playlist will reward you with Crimson Engrams, which “are only earnable through gameplay, and are not capped or limited during the event.” (You also need to reach the level cap for your Guardian to qualify, however.) You also won’t have to suffer through dupes as you collect items, either, as every Crimson Engram will drop a new item you don’t have until you complete the full set. If you want a specific item without waiting for the proper drop, you can purchase a selection of event gear with Bright Dust.

Tess will also be selling Crimson Days loot at the Eververse store. In a wise move from Bungie, purchases from Eververse contribute to the “knock-out” effect, and will not appear in your Crimson Engrams. Thus, duplicates shouldn’t be of concern to anyone during the event.

Crimson Engrams will also be awarded for levelling up, and are provided in addition to the usual Bright Engrams. Basically it is double loot for every level earned this week.

In addition to the Crimson Engram items, five other rewards are available for completing specific goals:

  • Complete the milestone “Welcome to Crimson Days” by finishing five Crimson Days matches and visiting Lord Shaxx in the Tower to earn the Fire of the Crimson Days Emblem and the Tirastrella Ghost Shell.
  • Complete matches in the Crimson Days Crucible playlist for a chance to earn the Undeterred Exotic Sparrow.
  • Complete either the Leviathan Raid or the Raid Lair: Eater of Worlds to claim the Dieselpunk Exotic Ornament for Wardcliff Coil from the final chest.
  • Complete the Nightfall Strike during the Crimson Days event to earn the Flaunting Dance Emote.
