Bungie will reveal Destiny 2’s second year – in other words, its big September expansion – at 09:00 Pacific (17:00 BST) on Tuesday, June 5. Twitch is the venue for the studio’s “next really big show,” which will set out “some big ideas for how we’re going to transform your Guardian lifestyle and reinforce your hobby as an interplanetary hero.”

Game director Steve Cotton and project lead Scott Taylor will lead the reveal, responding to community feedback and unveiling “some other things you haven’t even been looking forward to… yet.” Community manager David ‘DeeJ’ Dague says it will start a conversation that will last the summer, meaning we’ll undoubtedly see more at E3.

Cotton and Taylor have been present in previous reveals, but this will be their most prominent role yet as spokespeople for Destiny 2. Notably, Cotton is at least the third person we’ve heard titled a ‘game director’, after Luke Smith and Christopher Barrett. Smith was the pointman ahead of Destiny 2’s launch, while Barrett has been leading the live team since then.

Bungie made the announcement last night via its traditional weekly update. If by chance you should be reading this on June 5, you can watch the reveal on Bungie’s Twitch via this embed:

The other week, we put together our thoughts on what Bungie need to do in Destiny 2’s fall expansion to save their troubled game.

Elsewhere, the weekly update also announces the return of Faction Rallies for season three, and reconfirms a few changes. To make your choice of faction more meaningful, you only get to pledge one faction per rally per account, but your reputation will carry over to the next rally.

Each faction will also offer Exotic armour ornaments and Exotic weapon catalysts as rewards. Dead Orbit’s Exotics are Eye of Another World and Graviton Lance; New Monarchy’s are Crest of Alpha Lupi and Sweet Business; and Future War Cult’s are Knucklehead Radar and Sunshot. There are also some screenshots of the sweet new armour and weaponry at each faction – once again, Bungie’s excellent artists have outdone themselves (though personally I prefer the season two New Monarchy stuff).

The next rally kicks off after the weekly reset on Tuesday, June 5, at 10:00 Pacific (18:00 BST).

Finally, Escalation Protocol – the new endgame event introduced in the Warmind DLC – is getting easier. Required power levels for waves four to seven are getting reduced, jumping to 380 at wave four and 385 for wave six, rather than 385 and 400 respectively.
