After over thirteen years in the works, Diablo: The Hell 2, an expansive mod for the original Diablo game, which was first released back in 1996, has just released. Based on Hellfire, the single player Diablo expansion, the mod adds a raft of new content and features to the ARPG dungeon crawler.
On the Diablo: The Hell 2 Patreon site, creator Mordor – who also made the Hell 1 Diablo mod – outlines all of the exciting features of his work. The Hell 2 is “Ultra HD mod for Hellfire” that can even run in 4k, and offers “at least 50% more content that any other mod right now, right from the start” – or even over 500% more, as the creator indicates.
It looks like the mod will give you plenty of levels to get your teeth into, including 24 “basic dungeon levels”, plus extra “special quest levels” for singleplayer. It also adds a functioning multiplayer mode, and a new engine, so you’ll get an all-new visual experience. It fully supports “ultra HD, wide screen, window modes, borderless, fullscreen, switching them on the fly (Alt + Enter), [and] higher framerates (up to 80fps).”
In terms of gameplay itself, The Hell 2 mod adds “modernised” gameplay features, like monsters, items, and even music and randomisations. You’ll get more freedom to play it the way you want with 29 new and modified character classes to try out, such as Savages, Monks, Archers, Warriors, and more, and “rich” configuration options giving you greater power to tailor the game to your play style.
Other additions include four game modes, so you can change your difficulty setting, an expanded inventory, new item and weapon slots, and a darker atmosphere: “even more diabolic than original”, according to Mordor.
