Doom's latest trailer shows off what the developers are describing as a type of FPS-based speed chess, with each type of enemy representing an enemy piece and each of your guns acting as a counter.
The original Doom inspired a fair bit of our PC's best FPS games list.
The developer diary-style trailer explains how the team at id aim to replicate the brisk feeling of the original FPS, but with a layer of modern extras generously sprinkled over the top.
One of these concessions to modern gaming is the ability to upgrade your character, but even this feeds into the core, allowing you to boost the speed of the violent 'glory kills' and get your Doom Guy to mantle more quickly.

Doom releases worldwide this Friday, May 13.
