Eve Online is no stranger to spin-offs, but the space spreadsheet simulator has just turned toward mobile for the first time. CCP and PlayRaven are co-developing a new title tentatively called Project Aurora, a standalone mobile game set for a full release sometime in 2018.

The developers describe it as a massively multiplayer game, and one that will challenge players to work together in becoming the most powerful corporation in the galaxy.
“We’re all long-time fans of CCP and EVE Online, so we’re immensely proud and honoured to be working with such a legendary developer and beloved franchise,” says PlayRaven CEO Lasse Seppänen. “It’s really a dream come true to have the opportunity to create a new Eve experience on mobile.”
Project Aurora – or whatever ends up being the final title – won’t be integrating with Eve Online proper. That’s unlike the ill-fated Dust 514, but rather more like the currently-active Eve: Valkyrie.
It seems the mobile title will be pretty fully featured, but not having it integrate directly with Eve itself feels like a failure to capitalize on the interesting parts of the MMO, mostly built around the vibrant in-game economy. But the mobile title seems intent on replicating that experience in its own way, and maybe it’ll manage to generate its own wild Eve war stories.
