A Russian man is reportedly filing a lawsuit against Bethesda Softworks because Fallout 4 ruined his life. Apparently the game is so addictive he played it for a solid three weeks, resulting in the loss of his job, the decline of his health, the destruction of his friendships, and the collapse of his marriage.
Fallout 4 certainly likes addiction; we got hooked on wasteland drugs and tried to play high with terrible results.
The unnamed 28-year old from Kransnoyarsk skipped work to play the game, and stopped sleeping and eating just to keep questing for the good of the Commonwealth. He now wishes to sue Bethesda and the localisation company Softklab for failing to warn him that playing Fallout could be so dangerous to his health. “If I knew that this game could have become so addictive, I would have become a lot more wary of it,” he said in a statement. “I would not have bought it, or I would have left it until I was on holiday or until the New Year holidays.”
The Fallout-addicted claimant will be represented by the ‘Single Center for Protection’, who aided him in making the initial claim. “Russia does not like the judicial practice of resolving disputes between ordinary consumers and foreign companies for compensation for moral damage,” director Konstantin Bobrov told Единый Центр. “However, we do not have to question the legal qualification of our company, and we are ready to see how far we can go in this business.”
500,000 roubles are being sought in compensation, which converts to around $7,000. I’m sure the money will be very useful for buying a round of apologetic drinks for the friends he’d not seen in three weeks (a time period known for many social-shattering experiences).
