If you own Fallout 76 on PC you’ll get the Steam version for free - here’s how

Bethesda offers up a promotion for those looking to switch platforms

The Fallout 76 Steam release date is set for April 14, and the release will open Bethesda’s controversial online game to a new audience – and, potentially, bring some lapsed players back to see the new updates. The devs are now offering an enticing way to jump back in, too, as all existing owners have a chance to get the Steam version for free.

To take advantage of the promotion, you’ll need to head to the official site and link your Bethesda.net account to your Steam account. You’ve got until 11:59 EDT on April 12 to do so, two days before the launch of the Wastelanders expansion and the Steam version. Your character and progress will transfer with you.

Your Atom balance and Fallout 1st membership, however, will not. So if you’ve got real-money currency to spend, do it before the transfer – the items will come over, even if the currency does not. The Steam version will have the same achievements that the consoles do, though you’ll need to meet the achievement criteria again to actually unlock them. Quest and level-based achievements will require you to start a new character.

The Bethesda.net version of Fallout 76 will remain up and running, and there will be full cross-play between both PC releases.
