Epic apologises for selling a reskinned Fortnite battle pass pet, offers refunds

Reruns are not welcome among the Fortnite community

Fortnite patch notes 6.0 pets

Today, Epic started selling a new pet in the Fortnite item shop called Gunner. If the pup looks familiar, that’s because the little guy is nearly identical to Bonesy, the dog who came as part of the season six battle pass when pets were first introduced. Historically, Fortnite battle pass items have never been available for sale later, and fans haven’t been pleased to see such a simple reskin up for purchase.

“We should not have released the Gunner pet and apologise for doing so,” Epic says on Reddit. “Within the next couple of days, all purchases of Gunner will be refunded for the full amount of 1000 V-bucks as well as an additional 200 V-bucks and the pet will be removed from the Locker.” If you’ve already refunded Gunner, you’ll get an additional refund token alongside 200 V-bucks.

At first glance, Gunner does look completely identical to Bonesy, but the dog is wearing a yellow ski mask and has a little logo on his bandana. That wasn’t enough to convince many players, as Eurogamer notes. “Wow they’re actually selling a literal recolour of an old battle pass item for $10,” one player says on Reddit. “Not even a new model at all.”

That thread is full of plenty more objections to Gunner’s lightly updated look, which Epic has apparently taken to heart.

Now, of course, the thread under Epic’s apology is full of players asking for the still-controversial mech to be removed.
