Foxhole isn’t like other RTS games. Sure, it’s a war sim, so there are the usual sights and sounds of tank tracks rolling across dirt roads and the exchange of gunfire. But how the game works at a fundamental level isn’t really like anything else out there.
That’s due to it being completely online so that every soldier in the battle is controlled by a player rather than AI. The result is an RTS in which you must pick a role to play to serve your team’s tactics. You can be a soldier, of course, but there’s plenty of room to try your hand at something completely different – an engineer, a driver, a builder, a spy, and so on.
What that means is you can win battles without ever firing a bullet. Everyone has a part to play in each big frontline push in this persistent online world and they’re all as important as each other. You can also gain notoreity in your role and grow influence among your faction simply by learning what to do in your role and doing it well.
Foxhole is currently in Steam Early Access but it’s got a fanatic community and is already a great game to occupy your strategist’s mind with. It’s only going to continue growing and getting better too. You should be in there already learning your role and doing your part in the war effort. Come on!
