The free-to-play Ghost in the Shell FPS is shutting down later this year

Remember the Ghost in the Shell game? Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online came out in July 2016, and was on Early Access just half a year before that. It was a free-to-play game set in the futuristic Ghost in the Shell universe, where you’d shoot the baddies and use fancy gadgets. You might have noticed I’m talking in the past tense: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online is now shutting down.

These are the best shooters you can move on to from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online.

This news comes from the game’s Steam forums, where a moderator, Predictable (that’s the moderator’s username, not that they were predictable), issued the news. The game will be closed on December 6 in North America, South America, Europe, and Oceania. The reason reason given for the game’s closure is that the team “decided that continued development wasn’t going to help the game become what [they] all hoped it could become.”

It’s a shame, but all things must die, I suppose. Even entities living in a digital world.

The in-game store has been removed and you can no longer buy any DLC for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online. Development will continue until the game shuts down, but we can only assume these will be closing updates to fix whatever bugs desperately need fixing.

To finish, the announcement ends with a thank you to the community.

“It’s been a humbling experience to serve such a dedicated and engaged player community. We sincerely thank you for all the feedback and support you’ve given us throughout the years.
