Hearthstone’s live-action Kobolds & Catacombs trailer pays loving tribute to 80s Henson films

hearthstone kobolds and catacombs the light candle trailer

Kobolds & Catacombs, the dungeoneering adventure-themed expansion for Hearthstone, released today well ahead of schedule, so maybe you’ve already dove in. We can’t blame you for that, but you should take just a minute to watch the incredible live-action trailer that’s accompanied its release.

The trailer – for a fictional film called The Light Candle – is properly 80s, featuring loads of VHS noise and a cast of improbably attractive everyday people mysteriously transported to a land of magic and adventure. It’s a pitch-perfect tribute to Jim Henson films like Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal, and there’s no shortage of appropiately creepy, awkward, and lovable Kobold puppets to enjoy.

At least now we know what Battlefront II actor Janina Gavankar was teasing all those months ago.

The actual Kobolds & Catacombs expansion is live now, featuring a single-player Dungeon Run mode and, of course, loads of new cards.
