We’re IPS people here at PCGamesN. Ask us what sort of panel we want in our monitors and it’s IPS. And with a 27-inch screen on offer in this year’s HP Cyber Monday sale it’s definitely our pick of the day. The HP 27er monitor is available with 44% knocked off the standard sticker price, saving $110 with the affordable screen in the sale for just under $140. Bargain.
What makes IPS panels so good? Without getting too bogged down into the specifics (we’re not going into the whole in-plane switching thing right now…) they offer the truest color representation outside of the ultra-expensive OLED screen technology, making them great for photo and video editing, and of-course gaming. They’re far superior to the traditional cheap TN gaming monitor, with immaculate viewing angles, and excellent contrast.
And with a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 the HP 27er is a great companion for a mainstream gaming rig, allowing you to hit high frame rates without the GPU demands of something like a 2560 x 1440 or 4K screen.
It’s not just the screen that will deliver in the looks department either, as the HP 27er also features a beautiful design with an edge-to-edge display that almost has the panel stretching right to the limits of the frame. The clean, simple aesthetic is the perfect antithesis to those often overly dramatic gaming monitors, with their flashing RGB LEDs and angular chassis… and all the better for it.
Even if you’re happy with your current gaming monitor, at this price the HP 27er will make for an excellent second screen. And we all know that your desktop setup only gets better the more monitors you add to it. I’ve got five on mine… like some crazed hacker from the movies.
There is also a 23-inch HP 23er which is on sale today for just $99.99, using the same IPS panel technology too, if you don’t feel the need to go quite so big. The 23-inch will also have a tighter pixel pitch too. That HP27er is just $139.99 today, but check out our roundup of the best of HP’s Black Friday weekend offers because they’re still going on…
