See the first trailer for the “hardcore” Norse RPG Immortal: Unchained

Immortal Unchained Announcement Norse Action RPG

There haven’t been many truly successful mashups of the third-person shooter and RPG genres. It seems like a weird combination as the absolute power third-person shooters give you can be antithetical the progression of an RPG. But developers Toadman Interactive want to make one, as they, alongside publishers Sold Out, have announced Immortal: Unchained.

In case you’re wondering what the best RPGs on PC are, here’s our take.

The trailer above is the only footage of the game so far, but the YouTube description has more details. They go like this: you’ve been released from some sort of prison to help prevent the end of the world, although for what purpose you specifically have been chosen, nobody knows. Assuming the footage towards the end of the trailer is gameplay footage, it looks pretty good on the eyes, at least.

The website, too, has some story hints – you’ll be travelling to “the center of the nine worlds,” so it looks like we’re dealing with some Norse mythology. Perhaps, though, with its own bent – 35 seconds into the trailer, it looks like Yggdrasil is more of a collection of wires than a tree.

Who knows! The game is to be released in Q2 2018 on Steam (and consoles). You can sign up for updates over on the Immortal: Unchained website.
