Save the world from anime tentacles in Invasion, League of Legends’ new game mode

Invasion game mode

Invasion is the newest game mode coming to League of Legends, and it’s possibly the most ambitious one yet. Launching alongside the newest set of Star Guardian skins, Invasion comes with a new map, new announcer, and a whole load of scary, scary beasties to take on.

If you fancy trying out Invasion, you might also want to look at our list of the best League of Legends champions.

Succeeding at Invasion means winning a run of six levels and winning a climactic boss fight. These six levels will be divided into three different mini-games: Survival, in which you simply have to defeat all the waves of enemies; Escape, where you have to gradually battle your way to the end of the level; and Defense, in which you have to hold off attackers from inside a protective shield.

Between every level, you’ll be given a flat amount of gold and be levelled up, getting the chance to shop and upgrade your items.

If you make it to the end of these six stages, you’ll reach a final boss fight (kind of like the massive evil Teemo from Doom Bots of Doom), and you’ll have to defeat The Big One in order to save the city and win the game.

The monsters you’ll be facing in Invasion are buffed-up versions of the group of champions that come from the Void. These include, Cho’Gath, Vel’Koz, Kog’Maw, Rek’sai and Kha’zix. Skarner also makes an appearance, despite actually being being from the Shurima Desert. Several of your foes can upgrade further, becoming Huge variants with even more powerful attacks.

The previously existing Star Guardians are Lux, Jinx, Lulu, Poppy and Janna, who Riot made an anime-style music video for on their release last year. They’ll be joined this time around by Ahri, Ezreal, Syndra, Soraka and Miss Fortune, who are all getting new themed skins. All ten champions will be available to play in Invasion. The new game mode and the five new Star Guardian skins are likely to arrive with patch 7.17, which will probably be out August 23.
