Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is coming to PC “around December” – it’s about time

Did you see what I did there? I said “it’s about time”, because PC gamers have been waiting for this for ages and the game itself is actually about time. It’s an RPG with an ever-present countdown clock; one that is counting down to an extinction event. Yes, like The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.

So, yes, it’s about time. Lightning Returns is certainly the most interesting game in the Final Fantasy XIII saga, and unlike FFXIII itself, it doesn’t take 30 hours to get good. It also has one of the best active time battle systems of all the JRPGs.

Fight me.

The game sees you jumping between four varied locations, from verdant countrysides to rolling dunes, following multiple questlines at once. There are peaceful areas and shopping districts, but even here you’ll find yourself dashing between shops like a kleptomaniac after too many Pro Plus.

Basically, it’s a welcome change of pace for the JRPG.

According to a tweet fromproducer Yoshinori Kitase, PC players will be able to experience it “around December”.
