Minecraft set a new monthly user record in December. Head of Minecraft Helen Chiang recently told PopSugar that the game had reached 74 million active users.

Here’s our list of the best Minecraft skins.

In total, Minecraft has sold more than 144 million copies. That’s admittedly across almost every platform imaginable, which possibly helps boost the numbers a teeny bit, but it’s extremely impressive nonetheless. Add to that the fact that Minecraft is still breaking its own records, nine years after release, and the extent of its audience is mind-boggling.

Chiang’s appointment was announced on January 17, following the departure of previous head Matt Booty, who moved from Minecraft to become corporate vice president of Microsoft Studios, replacing Phil Spencer. She told PopSugar that “my job is not really to change the plan we’re on,” but that the team’s current goal is “to keep building the community that we have.”

That said, a major goal is to bring the entire Minecraft community together. With users scattered across PC, every major console, and mobile, Chiang says “what’s important to us is that [players] have the opportunity to play together.” Other major projects include the arrival of ocean-themed The Update Aquatic, and a significant graphics update, both of which should arrive later this year.
