The next big Chinese esports investor? The NBA

The USA’s National Basketball Association are planning to set up an esports league in China.

Live another life with the best simulation games on PC.

The news comes via CNBC, to whom NBA China’s CEO David Shoemaker was speaking yesterday. China is, as we all know by now, a huge market, and Shoemaker is optimistic about the NBA’s expansion there.

“When you factor in not just filling arenas, but the content offering and what that can do with the millions of people watching it online, we think the sky’s really the limit,” he says.

The NBA are also considering including Chinese teams in the US esports league, which launches next year. We heard in February that the NBA have already convinced some of the biggest outfits in traditional US sports to participate.

NBA China will also partner with Chinese gaming and internet giants Tencent to deliver their traditional basketball games to local fans on mobile platforms – a necessity, given that most of them will never be able to catch a live game (even if they could afford the tickets).
