A new Ni no Kuni game is in development

Level-5 president Akihiro Hino says that a new game in the series will launch some time after this summer's movie

A new Ni no Kuni game is in development. In an interview with Japanese magazine Nikkei, Akihiro Hino, president of developer Level-5 revealed that a new game in the fantasy series is on the way.

In the interview (via Dualshockers, translated via Google), Hino says that he’s planning to release a new game in the series after the release of the animated film adaptation of the series, which is set to hit Japanese cinemas at the end of August. The translation isn’t 100% clear, but I don’t think that means you should be expecting a new game in the Autumn – Ni no Kuni II only released in March 2018, so an 18-month turnaround on a brand new title seems unlikely.

To tide you over until that mystery release date, however, you’ve got plenty of options. There’s that movie, of course, as well as a mobile title on the way, with a remastered version of Wrath of the White Witch heading to PlayStation 4 later this year, and a Nintendo Switch release also in the works.

Given the multi-platform boost that Level-5 seems to be giving the Ni no Kuni series in general, perhaps it’s no great surprise that a new game would be on the way. Ni no Kuni II sold around a million units in the months after its release, which seems to have been a reasonable success.

Whether or not the game makes it to PC remains to be seen. The remaster of the first game will join Ni no Kuni II on Steam, but the most recent release is the only game in the series to have made it to this platform for now.
