January 22, 2020 The PUBG 6.1 patch update is live.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has a new, huge update now live on its servers, marking the start of the battle royale game’s Season 6. The update, patch 6.1, adds the new Karakin map, a black zone, and plenty more now that it’s hit PC live servers today (January 22).

Karakin is PUBG’s smallest map yet. The 2×2 km island is designed for 64 players, and developer PUBG Corp. says it’s “fast and dangerous: expect the tension of Miramar combined with the pace of Sanhok”. Players, the devs say, “should expect long distance rifle engagements in the mountains, tactical urban conflict, and claustrophobic underground combat. And with the introduction of the Black Zone, Karakin reveals its twist: a map that’s layout changes every match.”

The black zone is a new type of PUBG threat. PUBG Corp. says it’s intended to “push players out of the safety of a building”, which it does by damaging and destroying a number of buildings, chosen at random, each match.

Destruction is a theme continued by the new sticky bomb throwable, which can breach walls and floors at designated breach points. These will offer new routes in to enemy buildings and the ability for players to create new sightlines across the Karakin map, which the new bombs are exclusive to. The map will also contain some limited bullet penetration mechanics, PUBG Corp. says.
