Rage 2 scores – our roundup of the critics

As Bethesda returns to the Wasteland, it's time to see what the critics thought of Rage 2

Tomorrow marks the Rage 2 release date, which means it’ll be time to head into Bethesda’s colourful wasteland. Right now, however, it’s time for the critics’ scores, so if you haven’t decided whether to jump in yet, keep reading to find out if Rage 2 is worth your hard-earned pennies.

If you’re just in it for the combat, it seems as though you’ll have a pretty good time. In our own Rage 2 review, Harry said that “Rage 2 is at its strongest when you devote every inch of your grey matter to dispatching your targets in the most inventive and gratifying ways imaginable.”

Sadly, if you’re looking for something just a little bit deeper, this probably isn’t it. Harry goes on to say that “the pace and bite of an id shooter is watered down by the sprawl of a monotonous open world that encourages stop/start rhythms and fails to allow the game’s exquisite combat the chance to shine.” Ultimately, all that chaotic combat doesn’t make up for a somewhat jumbled open world experience.

Over on Metacritic, Rage 2 has posted a score of 73. On OpenCritic, that’s more or less been matched, with a score of 72. Without further ado, let’s check out those Rage 2 scores.

It looks a lot like Harry’s sentiments have been met elsewhere. If you fancy something that’ll keep you entertained with its combat for a few hours, Rage 2 should be what you’re looking for. Just don’t rely on the story to keep you going.
