Resident Evil 2 finally launches in all its gory, remade glory on January 24 – but with today’s digital distribution, it’s not so much the date that matters but the time. Luckily, Steam has at last effectively given us those release times with a countdown to launch, so we can properly count down the hours until launch. Just expect to look jealously across the ocean depending on what region you’re in.
For folks in the UK, RE2 will be available at midnight GMT. If you’re in the US, expect a launch at midnight EST / 21:00 PST – yes, looks like the west coast won’t have to stay up quite so late to enjoy the spooks. Either way, there are less than 12 hours to go.
Those last few hours will be well worth the wait, as our Resident Evil 2 PC review will attest. Chris says “This remake is a bloodbath for longtime fans to relish, but one that stands tall among the survival horror greats of today. It would do so even without the legacy behind it.”
You can find much the same sort of praise from other critics in our score round-up.
Stay scared: These are the best horror games on PC
For those who prefer their game criticism in video format, we’ve got you covered there, too.
If you don’t want to take our word for it, there’s still time to play the Resident Evil 2 demo for yourself. It’ll be removed from digital distributors at the end of the month, so this’ll be your last chance for a free taste.
Capcom’s gone the extra mile for one last bit of marketing too. After zombie master George Romero did a live action commercial for the original Resident Evil 2 in 1998, the company’s put out a new live action ad paying tribute back again. (It’s good and corny.)
