Ubisoft and Blue Byte are dipping into the The Settlers franchise again, announcing Settlers: Kingdoms of Anteria, which will launch later this year.
Details are scarce, but Blue Byte’s Christopher Schmitz says the studio has reinvented its approach to the series. The teaser trailer doesn’t reveal much more, but implies a focus on adventurers or heroic units whose loot helps fund settlements.
“By reinventing our approach to the franchise, The Settlers: Kingdoms of Anteria offers players a brand new experience full of new possibilities to explore,” said Schmitz “Without a doubt, this is the most innovative Settlers’ game we have ever created.”
With Settlers Online still going on, I’m hopeful that we won’t be facing another fremium game. However, Blue Byte has been focusing on this market for a while, and I can’t help but see that purple gem the heroes toss the villager as some sort of premium currency.
It would be odd if there were two competing Settlers games though.
