We’ve known for a while that Sonic Forces is going to be a safe haven for your Sonic fan characters. You’ll be able to create your own character in the Sonic world and save the day alongside him and his buddies – how lovely. Up until now, we haven’t had much of a glimpse at what that might entail, though, but some new gameplay has emerged showing Sonic Forces’ tag team mode.
For all of our out of Gamescom, everything is collected right here.
It’s an incredibly short clip, but thankfully other people across YouTube have some more footage of how this mode works – you’ll be able to swap between Sonic and your own character on the fly, to use the gadget your character is equipped with. In the official trailer that’s some sort of pixel gun, but other videos have shown off things like flamethrowers. Here’s some gameplay taken from Famitsu’s stream earlier today.
Strangely, it’s most reminiscent of Sonic Heroes, which, while not great, is at least one of the better 3D Sonic games, so this does show promise, I suppose? I mean, it’s still very, very odd to have customised characters in a Sonic game.
