Square Enix teases “multi-game partnership” with Marvel, starting with an Avengers game

Marvel/Squeenix Avengers project

Square Enix just teased “a multi-game partnership” with Marvel, to begin with a project based on the Avengers.

More details are coming next year. In the meantime, here are the upcoming PC games still due in 2017.

You can watch the video above, and here’s the tweet:

In a press release, Marvel assure us that “The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise.” It will feature a completely original story, and introduce a universe gamers can play in “for years to come.” More details on The Avengers project and further games in the partnership will be announced in 2018. We don’t even know for sure if it’s coming to PC yet.

Phil Rogers, CEO of Square Enix Americas and Europe, says the partnership will enable “gamers to live out their superhero dreams like never before,” while Jay Ong, senior VP of games at Marvel, sayd “The Avengers project is a perfect example of how Marvel is making games a key part of the landscape for Marvel storytelling, alongside comics, television and film.”

From the teaser, it’s a confident guess that something bad has happened to the Avengers, and it’s up to players to rebuild them, most likely beating up some fools along the way. Anything beyond this is much less clear, and we’ll have to wait until next year to learn more.
