Stadia adds a two-month free trial, with free games like the Destiny 2 collection and Grid

You can try out Stadia free for two months, including access to nine games

The Stadia streaming service launched with a thud last year, but contrary to the expectations of detractors, Google has yet to cut and run from the grand experiment – in fact, the company’s buying up developers to build new exclusives. Now, Google’s also finally offering a way to try Stadia for free, and enjoy a nice selection of free PC games along the way.

You can now get a two-month free trial for the Stadia Pro subscription, which includes a selection of free games, 4K streaming options, and discounts for full game purchases. The promotion also extends to current Stadia Pro subscribers, who won’t have to pay for the next 60 days.

The free games currently include Destiny 2: The Collection (while Destiny 2 is now free-to-play, its current expansion are not), Grid, Thumper, Stacks on Stacks (on Stacks), the Serious Sam Collection, SteamWorld Dig 2, SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech, Spitlings, and the currently-Stadia-exclusive Gylt.

“We’re facing some of the most challenging times in recent memory,” Stadia GM Phil Harrison says in the announcement. “Keeping social distance is vital, but staying home for long periods can be difficult and feel isolating. Video games can be a valuable way to socialize with friends and family when you’re stuck at home, so we’re giving gamers in 14 countries free access to Stadia for two months. This is starting today and rolling out over the next 48 hours.”

You still have to use the Stadia app on iOS or Android to get set up for some awful reason, but you can play just fine on your home PC once that’s done. You can head to the official site if you want to take advantage of the free trial.
