Star Citizen isn't finished, but there's still plenty to do

Anyone who fancies the look of Star Citizen, but isn’t ready to make a cash commitment, will be interested to hear that they can take the space sim for a fling as of today. Another of its Free Fly events is taking off, and will run until Halloween.

The news comes via Jared ‘Disco Lando’ Huckaby, Star Citizen community manager,in the latest episode of Around the Verse. If you’re tempted, head over to the RSI website, register an account, download the game, and the ‘verse is yours for the next ten days. You’ll get access to the Super Hornet fighter and all currently accessible features.

“Currently accessible features” are mutable in Star Citizen, an ambitious crowdfunded game that is technically still in Alpha. You can check the status of the project against its ultimate goals on the website; as of right now, the social spaces, home bases, and arena battle modes are all ready for you to try.

The latest Free Fly event rounds off a busy month for Star Citizen, with community convention CitizenCon earlier in October. The big news from that event is that the game’s campaign module, Squadron 42, is delayed out of the year. On the upside, there were some very impressive procedural planets on show.

So it’s a long way from finished, but there’s still plenty to do. If you’re flying free in the next few days, let us know how it’s all coming along.
