StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void can be pre-purchased; Heart of the Swarm goes standalone

StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void pre-purchase

StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void is now available for pre-purchase. While the expansion isn’t launching until either this year or next year, you can now get access to the Whispers of Oblivion missions, in beta, as well as the beta of Legacy of the Void by pre-purchasing the expansion. And you can do that now.

The standard edition will set you back £24.99, while the digital deluxe edition costs £44.99. The latter will give you new portraits and a unique Protoss unit skin, a World of Warcraft pet, a Hearthstone card back, transmog gear for Diablo III and a new mount for Heroes of the Storm.

Legacy of the Void is a standalone expansion, and Blizzard have decided to make Heart of the Swarm, the previous expansion, also standalone. Even if you don’t have Wings of Liberty, you’ll be able to grab it and play.

With this change, Blizzard’s also opened up all of StarCraft II’s assets to modders, regardless of which game they own. Previously, if you only had Wings of Liberty, you could only use assets from that game, but now owning any of them will allow modders to use assets from any version.
