Wookiee Life Day is coming to The Old Republic

If you’ll indulge me for a minute, I’d like to read something from Wookieepedia. The page is ‘Life Day’, tagged ‘Holidays’ and ‘Wookie Culture’.

“Life Day was a Wookiee holiday celebrated by the inhabitants of Kashyyyk every three years. It was a celebration of the planet’s diverse ecosystem and the many forms of life it encompassed. It also was a time to remember family members who had died, and the young ones who continued to bring new life to a family. Life Day was a sacred holiday, and many Wookiees considered it their duty to return to Kashyyyk in order to celebrate it.”

Thank you. I thought we could all benefit from hearing that, knowing as we do that Life Day is fast approaching in The Old Republic.

Yesterday, Darth Hater collated all of the items newly arrived in the game’s Public Test Server. Some of them alluded to the old Kashyyk holiday, including a ‘Life Day Holiday Holo-Tree’. A holo-tree!

Given the success of Guild Wars 2’s current Halloween event in drawing players back into the game, an annual – or tri-annual, as per the fiction – reason to flood SWTOR with new and silly content seems like a wonderful idea. Would you agree?

Life Day, of course, originates in the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, which George Lucas famously hates. Enjoy.
