After selling 1.8 million copies, The Escapists is coming back for another crack at our wallets and Steam ownership stats. It was unveiled at TwitchCon and info as poured out since then, as well as the above reveal trailer.

So many upcoming PC games we don’t know what to do with them.

Here’s what it’s getting over the original:

  • Drop in co-op/competitive multiplayer for up to four players, online or split-screen.
  • Multi-level prisons mean it’s time for the classic tied-together sheets to escape
  • A completely new combat system to use the new crafted items more effectively
  • More stuff: new things to do, better customisation options, and so on.

It’s an attempt to redesign the poor sections of the first game and upgrade the bits that did work. Chris Davis, who founded developers Mouldy Toof, says that “The Escapists 2 takes everything the fans loved from the first game and adds in so many new additions and features on top. I can’t wait to see what the fans think!”

It’ll hit in 2017, published by Team17. It’ll hit PC and the latest brand of consoles simultaneously, with no word of a price as of yet. The original’s up on Steam for less than the price of a Bacon Double XL thanks to a 66% cut. Normally it sells in the $15 range.
