While Telltale’s The Walking Dead is on hiatus, don’t expect to relax, enjoying a world where all your decisions inevitably result in friends getting devoured by rotting, walking corpses. Telltale’s announced a spin-off, featuring dreadlocked badass, Michonne.
The Walking Dead: Michonne won’t be a full season of Telltale adventures, instead wrapping up after three episodes. It’s a mini-series. You’ll be put in the well-worn shoes of Michonne, who first appears in Robert Kirkman’s comic leading her boyfriend and his best friend, now zombies, with chains that she’s linked to collars around their necks. Oh yeah, and she also walks around with a katana.
The mini-series fills in the gap where she went off on a journey between issues #126 and #139. Players will be able to find out why she left the group and what eventually led her back.
“In many ways, Michonne herself is a reflection of the world of The Walking Dead. She is brutal and cold on the outside, but deep beneath what is broken, she remains hopeful, trying to claw her way out of the darkness that surrounds her,”said Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead. “In our effort to bring the world of the comic and the world of the Telltale series closer together, there is no greater character than Michonne to help bridge that gap.”
You’ll need The Walking Dead Series 2 to be able to play Michonne.
While I’ve grown attached to Clem and her harrowing story, so far Telltale’s Walking Dead games have charted their own course, only really connecting to the comics in the first episode of the first series, and it will be interesting to play through one that actually relates to Kirkman’s zombie epic.
The downside is that I stopped reading the comics not long after they left the prison, so I’m probably going to need to catch up if I want to have a clue what Michonne has been up to.
The Walking Dead: Michonne will launch in the autumn.
