In probably the most absurd/brilliant news story of the week, German magazine Gamestar has discovered that The Witcher 3 main character Geralt will have a realistically-modelled beard that will grow over the course of the game. Not only that, but you’ll also be able to download some DLC that will stop the hair ever growing, like a perpetual razor constantly removing every millimeter of stubble that dares invade Geralt’s chin.
Want more Witcher 3? Here are the best Witcher 3 mods.
“The beard grows as time passes and when Geralt moves between locations. The beard has several “states” and these states determine its length – the longest is really long but it’s not Gandalf-long,” said CD Projekt communications chief Michał Platkow-Gilewski, when pressed for details by Eurogamer.
It sounds a lot like the system used in the Batman Arkham games, where Bruce’s stubble would begin to dominate the iconic jawline of the caped crusader, along with damage to the batsuit over time. The Witcher 3’s take on that sounds a little more detailed, though.
If having a foot-long soup-catcher dangling from Geralt’s chin isn’t your style, you can download a free Beard and Hairstyle DLC pack, which will freeze any style in place. “When you download the free Beard and Hairstyle DLC the growth of the beard will stop because we decided that when players want a predefined look, it would be weird to require from them to reapply it time after time,” explained Platkow-Gilewski.
You’ll be able to tailor Geralt’s rugged facial hair to perfection when The Witcher 3 releases on May 19th.
Thanks, MVC.
