The Division gets a massive new content update, a free weekend, and a 70% discount

The Division Resistance

Tom Clancy’s The Division released back in 2016 – it seems so long ago now – but Ubisoft are far from finished when it comes to updating the game with new content. The long promised 1.8 update is ready to deploy, and with a free weekend and deep discounts on the game to boot, this is a very good time to dive in.

The 1.8 “Resistance” patch adds a host of new features, and Ubisoft have been calling it the game’s biggest free update yet. Among the top additions is the new West Side Piers PvE map expansion, featuring new story content and side missions, along with a new social space called Camp Clinton. Team deathmatch hits the game in Skirmish mode, which pits teams of four against each other in first-to-20-kills battles.

The titular Resistance refers to new end-game PvE content that seems to play out pretty much like a traditional wave-based survival mode. Going rogue in the Dark Zone is being altered to keep accidents from happening, and to let your team decide whether or not they want to follow you on your dark path. A handful of gear optimizations to help you pull together your build will also be in place.

1.8 launches across all platforms tomorrow, December 5. On December 7, a free weekend will begin that runs through December 10, and the game will be 70% off for the duration of the event. From the launch of patch 1.8 through the end of the free weekend, all players will also have access to the game’s first three DLC expansions for free.
