Play a branching quest in Torment: Tides of Numenera’s new interactive trailer

Torment: Tides of Numenera

How’d you like to get a sense of the choices and consequences you’ll have to wrestle with in forthcoming RPG Torment: Tides of Numenera? It’s hard to do unless you’re actually playing the game, but developers Techland have come up with a neat idea: an interactive quest video.

Will Torment make our list of the best RPGs on PC when it releases?

Click on the video above and give it a try. You’ll be presented with a series of branching choices, and depending on where you click, the video will either play on or skip ahead to show the correct consequences.

The video is narrated by creative lead Colin McComb, who takes the role of Dungeon Master, guiding you through the quest and revealing secrets of the world of Numenera as you go.

The latest in the (wonderful) resurgence of isometric old-school RPGs, Torment: Tides of Numenera bills itself as the “thematic successor” to Planescape: Torment, one of the most acclaimed RPGs ever. It’s set a billion years in the future in a science-fantasy world conceived by pen-and-paper game designer Monte Cook, who has also worked on Dungeons & Dragons, and the influence of D&D is plain to see. Obviously, this is a good thing.

Techland confirm that Torment has gone gold, so you can officially start getting hyped for its release on February 28. If you can’t wait, it’s in early access now, and is sitting on an 81% positive rating overall.
