Tron Run/r hits Early Access and will drown you in neon

Tron Run/r launches on Steam Early Access

I am a 30-year-old man who wears a glow-in-the-dark Tron hoodie without a hint of irony. A few years ago, I bought a Tron sticker book for children. It was for myself. I even really like Tron Legacy

Given these facts, it’s safe to assume that I am more than a little bit interested in Tron Run/r, which launched on Steam Early Access yesterday.

Don’t expect to read the Steam description, either of the game itself of the Early Access plans, and have a clue what’s going on. I mean, here’s what the developer has written in the ‘Why Early Access’ section:

“Kevin Flynn…he is a legend. Space Paranoids, TRON the whole deal. The man came up with so many ideas. The world needs to see them. See what they tried to hide. So much unseen for so long. Right now there’s one mode, ‘RUNNER’, that plays great. There are a few levels in this first build, and more will be added as they are finished. ‘CYCLE’ mode will be ready in a few weeks. In the meantime, your feedback would be great. Here it is. The truth. RUN PROGRAM! More to come.”

Ok…

It’s an endless runner, though you won’t read that anywhere on the sort of in-fiction description on the store page. With only 3 short, but repeatable, levels, it’s pretty light on content at the moment, but gosh is it a striking game. I’m not normally the sort of chap that cares much for the endless runner genre, but I do enjoy treating my eyes, and Tron Run/r is undeniably a bounty for my squishy orbs of sight.

More runner levels are planned, but more importantly, a light cycle mode is in the works as well. You can’t do a Tron game without light cycles, right? Expect that to be added over the next few weeks.

It’s expected to remain in Early Access for the next couple of months, or “until it’s ready”.

You can grab it now for £6.99/$9.99.
