The voice of BJ Blazcowicz didn’t know he was auditioning for Wolfenstein

Brian Bloom, the voice behind BJ Blazcowicz in Wolfenstein: The New Order and The New Colossus, says he didn’t know what he had been auditioning for. Even when he got the part, he says he didn’t know what it was.

Here are the Wolfenstein 2 system requirements.

In an interview with Bloom, he told us that before the voice actors strike “you could audition for something […] and not know what the job was, because there is so much secrecy, so much non-disclosure.” Bloom says that when he first read the audition piece – which turned out to be a section of Blazcowicz’s internal monologue – he had little more than a codename.

Other than that, all the information he had was that the game was being developed by Machine Games, published by Bethesda, and was being worked on by Jens Matthies, the game’s writer and creative director, and Tom Keegan, the director.

Bloom goes on to say “When I got the part, I didn’t know what the part was. They’ve since made some new arrangements where they have to tell you what it is you’re auditioning for and maybe give you a little bit of a better idea of what the commitment might be, but little did I know that 30-40 seconds of recording would turn out to be six or seven years of work.”
