WoW Tokens go live tomorrow in the Americas and Australia / New Zealand

The WoW token, which functions a lot like EVE’s PLEX, goes live tomorrow in the Americas and Australia / New Zealand. The token will sell for $20 USD / $25 AUD, and it’s starting price in-game will be 30,000 gold, though that will fluctuate with supply and demand.

It’s going to be a big change for the economy of World of Warcraft, and one that will likely make a lot of elite players very happy.

The WoW token will swell across entire regions, not just realms. Each token can be redeemed for 30 days of game-time, which could theoretically make World of Warcraft free for the players rich enough to afford the tokens.

To make sure players don’t feel like they’ve been abused by market fluctuations, you’re guaranteed the market price listed when you put your token up for sale, even if the price changes after you put it up on the auction block. But it doesn’t sound like there’s going to be a huge market for WoW Token speculation, since each Token is Soulbound after being sold.

For the sake of slowly easing into the market, Blizzard are limiting Token sales to 10 Tokens within a 30-day period. That still sounds like quite a lot, but we’ll see how it works out.

No word yet on when the WoW token will come to Europe and Asia.
