World of Warships sails onto Steam

World of Warships has been bringing online naval combat to the world since 2015, and seafaring free-to-play game is about to reach even more players as it sails off of Early Access and onto Steam proper.

Now that a test period of a few weeks to make sure “it works as intended on the Steam platform” has completed, the game is scheduled to drop its Early Access moniker on November 15. But there are a couple of catches that you’ll want to be aware of.

While the game on Steam uses all the same servers as the standard release, your existing Wargaming account won’t carry over to Valve’s platform – at least not officially. There are workarounds to force the Steam version to login as normal, but that’s not intended functionality, and you’re likely to run into some serious issues as continued updates get pushed out.

If you’re a new player, or you don’t mind starting your progress all over in favor of some Valve-specific accoutrements, the Steam version will support achievements and all that good stuff.

A stay in Early Access for an existing game making its way to Steam seems a bit excessive, but whatever the case World of Warships will soon be a permanent resident of Valve’s ever-expanding library.
