If your habit is to have World War Two served to you in game-form then it might be you need a bit of a palate cleanser, Wargaming have your back: this July, they’re hosting four nights of films as part of an event called Weekend at War, showing ten cinematic classics, including Ice Cold in Alex, The Great Escape, and The Bridge on the River Kwai.

London’s Stratford Picture House will be hosting the event from 4 – 7 July. Tickets have just gone on sale. You can either pick up single tickets for the showings of your choice, or a pass to see all ten films for £55.

Here’s the full list of what’s going to be on show:

  • The Great Escape

  • The Dirty Dozen

  • Kelly’s Heroes

  • The Desert Fox: The Story of Rommel

  • The Guns of Navarone

  • Ice Cold in Alex

  • Tora! Tora! Tora!

  • Battle of Britain

  • The Bridge on the River Kwai

  • The Dam Busters

It’s rare that you’ll get the opportunity to see these films up on the big screen and in an audience of similar interests, so if you’ve any great like for a film on the list above heading over to the cinema should lead to an excellent evening. I’d love to see Ice Cold in Alex in a packed cinema, particularly if there’s a pub nearby serving Carlsberg.

Wargaming have made a number of pushes in the past year to extend their reach beyond the work they do in creating World of Tanks; they funded a search for buried Spitfires out in Burma, and just last week announced investments into open source software foundations.

You can find tickets for the event over yonder, as well as descriptions of each of the films.
