Update, March 22: A remastered Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner launches this September on Steam.

Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner – Mars, first announced at last year’s Tokyo Game Show, is a remastered version of Hideo Kojima’s mech shooter supporting 4K visuals and VR headsets. We got a tease of a new announcement just last week, and it looks like there was something to it.

Today Konami confirmed the game for a September 2018 release on Steam and PlayStation 4. A new trailer, which you can see above, showcases the visuals of the new release, which have gotten a bump above even the existing HD remaster on PS3.

Original story, March 14: Konami have teased a Zone of the Enders announcement with a flashy gif. Compare it with the trailer above – if we were a betting website, we’d say we can expect a firm release date for the coming PC remaster of Zone of the Enders 2 sometime soon.

We heard last year thatZone of the Enders 2 would be coming to PCvia a 4K remaster, with VR support. The release window was said to be in Q2 this year, so it’s fair to expect a firmer announcement – or possibly even the actual release – around now.

Zone of the Enders is a third-person sci-fi action series in which you pilot a flying mecha, and endeavour to beat the crap out of other flying mecha. Produced by none other than Hideo Kojima, it was a cult hit for Konami in 2001, and earned a sequel in 2003. Both were exclusive to PlayStation 2.

The sequel’s full name is Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner. It’s this game that is getting the remastered treatment, and will mark the series’s debut on PC. It was also the last fully-fledged game in the series, followed only by an HD re-release in 2012.
