One of The Witcher 3’s game director’s has moved over to the Cyberpunk 2077 team. Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who has been with developer CD Projekt Red since 2004, has also been named the company’s vice president of game development.
That information comes via Tomaszkiewicz’s LinkedIn account (via PCGamer). Given that Cyberpunk 2077’s development is understood to be well underway, the timeframe is a little strange, particularly as Geralt’s final adventure released in 2016. It’s possible, then, that the new role is intended to fill the gap left by fellow game director Sebastian Stepien, who left CDPR for Blizzard earlier this year. The Witcher 3’s third game director, Mateusz Kanik, is now also working on the new game.
It’s also worth pointing out that we don’t know the Cyberpunk 2077 release date just yet. We can take some guesses as to when it’ll actually come out, but all of those are likely to leave the new design director plenty of time to make his mark on the game.
Tomaszkiewicz is something of a veteran of CDPR, having joined the company over 15 years ago. His first role was as a junior tester on the first Witcher game, and several other positions throughout his time at the company included work on the rest of the trilogy.

Tomaszkiewicz’s move to the Cyberpunk team might suggest that The Witcher 4 release date is still some way off. That’s a bit of a given, of course – CDPR says there will be another game in the series, but for Tomaszkiewicz to move away from Geralt could be a hint that CDPR’s next trip to the world of the Witcher is probably still in its early stages.
