The rebirth of Final Fantasy XIV is live, and you can read all about it in our A Realm Reborn review.

Final Fantasy XIV, aka Final Fantasy: The Rebooted MMO if you agree that Roman numerals are as useful an invention as the bum-sponges once you get past ten, enters the third phase of its beta today. As a consequence, you’re going to find yourself fighting alongside the nice people of PlayStation land. Say hello! Nicely.

“Beta phase 3 introduces the PlayStation 3 version of the game into the mix for the very first time,” reads Squeenix’s correspondence. “PlayStation 3 gamers will be able to experience the captivating world of Eorzea alongside PC players due to the game’s cross-platform functionality.”

They’ve stayed schtum on the exact nature of that cross-platform experience, but I imagine it’ll involve knifing the same squirrels, scrambling for the same chainmail boots, and emoting disgustingly in each others’ direction.

A Realm Reborn is scheduled to burst from its second, more impressive chrysalis on August 27. You can sign up for beta here. Do you think you will?
