Blizzard haven’t forgotten IGN’s 6.5/10 Heroes of the Storm review

Heroes of the Storm

When BlizzCon first began, it was all for WoW (and a little for StarCraft: Ghost, but we don’t talk about that). Now, between Legion, Diablo, Hearthstone and Heroes, the annual shindig in Anaheim barely fits all of its announcements into a weekend. But Blizzard made room this time for a quiet diss of IGN’s five-month-old Heroes of the Storm review – a 6.5/10.

Got that post-BlizzCon itch? These are the best Heroes of the Storm heroes for beginners.

The covert dig came during their showcase of new HotS arena battlegrounds – close-quarter skirmishes which pit two teams of five against each other in a best-of-three contest.

About 50 seconds into the Arena trailer, as the amassed residents of Azeroth, Sanctuary and the Koprulu Sector cheer on the clone bloodshed, you’ll see a big, red 6.5/10 banner plonked above the Butcher’s head in the stands.

“The intoxicating high of overwhelming victory in Heroes of the Storm is stark in contrast to its painful, frustrating sense of crushing defeat,” wrote IGN’s Mitch Dyer back in June. “I left each game feeling either godlike because of its superb characters and combat, or worthless because of the disruptive secondary objectives and poor progression system.”

Seriously, that crowd shot is like Where’s Wally (or Waldo, whichever featured in your childhood). That’s Overwatch’s Tracer positioned under the Nexus logo. And a little to the left, sure enough, red-and-white Wally himself. How’re you enjoying Heroes?
