LucasArts is creating some exciting stuff with VR thanks to their ILM Experience Lab

LucasArts VR

In a studio far, far away, LucasArts have created a partnership with both Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound to delve into the realm of VR. Using technology such as virtual reality and augmented reality, the new joint effort of the ILM Experience Lab is exploring the applications of the new technology; utilizing devices such as Valve’s HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift.

We’ve got a video of their latest tinkerings, and it looks pretty impressive.

It’s pretty clear that ILMxLAB’s primary goal isn’t videogames, but their research and investment will definitely have an affect for future Star Wars products. See, it’s not necessarily the use of VR on the consumers side that will be the only focus, but also the use of VR to help build better real-time 3D environments, and help designers better portray their intended vision.

Either way, it’s great to see VR grip the industry with such excitement.

In other VR news, Oculus revealed their consumer version of the Oculus Rift, as well as a partnership with Microsoft to bundle an Xbox One controller with every kit. But they’re also making their own controller: the Oculus Touch.
