Overwatch’s Halloween event starts with the spookiest stuff possible – Zenyatta’s feet

Halloween Terror kicks off today

Overwatch Halloween Terror 2019 starts today, and while Blizzard hasn’t offered up the usual selection of teases ahead of the event – the company’s been fairly quiet on social media this week, for some reason – we do know about one terrifying addition to the game. Zenyatta can now use his feet.

Happily or sadly (I’m not sure which), this horrible foot power does not appear to be an actual gameplay mechanic. Instead, it’s merely an emote in which Zenyatta cautiously sets his feet on the ground, stretches a bit, and looks around to ensure nobody caught him briefly obeying the laws of gravity.

Halloween Terror 2019 will kick off very soon today, and will last until November 4. Zenyatta’s sporting his older Skullyatta skin in the emote teaser, so at the moment we’ve got no idea what any of the new skins will look like. You can check out last year’s Overwatch Halloween skins at this link. Hopefully the new stuff will live up to the usual standards.

There’s a very real possibility that this could be the last Halloween event for standard Overwatch, as some substantial insider reports have suggested that Blizzard plans to announce Overwatch 2 at BlizzCon next month – though those plans are certainly subject to change.

Regardless of that, there’s going to be an asterisk next to news of any Blizzard game for the foreseeable future, as the company continues to face criticism for suspending a Hearthstone pro who spoke in support of Hong Kong protests during a post-match interview. The company recently cancelled a launch event for Overwatch on Switch for unspecified reasons, and while BlizzCon will certainly go on as planned, it’ll go on with a whole lot of extra scrutiny from players.
