The Project CARS developers are working on an unannounced Fast and Furious game

Need for Speed Payback is on the way, and everyone’s been saying all along that it’s Fast and Furious game in all but name. Now it seems there’s likely game officially licensed by the mega-franchise on the way, and it’s coming from the makers of Project CARS.

Whatever kind of racing you like, you’re sure to enjoy one of the best racing games on PC.

This is all unofficial, but it comes straight from the mouth of the CEO of Slightly Mad Studios, Ian Bell, albeit in a very impromptu interview. YouTuber SpotTheOzzie was running a livestream of the game, and Bell happened to hop into the chat. He joined the stream proper shortly thereafter, and proceeded to offer what amounts to a lengthy frank and candid interview.

The pertinent detail, of course, is Fast and Furious. Bell never mentioned the franchise by name, but he pointed to the NFS Payback and mentioned the “Hollywood film they’re copying.” He then revealed the studio has a six year deal with the actual Hollywood company. Still unnamed, but come on.

There have certainly been Fast and Furious games in the past, but you’d be forgiven if you’ve forgotten about most of them. The one notable title was a Forza Horizon 2 spin-off featuring a handful of cars featured in the films and the voice of Ludacris. The main team has never been represented properly in game, which is surprising given Vin Diesel’s well-documented love of all things nerdy. Given Project CARS’ focus on simulation racing and the films’ increasingly tangential connection to automobiles, the partnership would be an especially interesting one.
