PUBG and Fortnite go head-to-head in the BAFTA Game Awards

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

The BAFTA Game Awards nominations are out, with battle royale smash hits PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite going head-to-head in two different categories. But who will come out on top?

In the battle between PUBG and Fortnite, which is better

The battle royale genre exploded last year with the release of PUBG, which hit three million concurrent players in December. The genre has since gone from strength-to-strength, with every publisher wanting a piece of the battle royale action.

However, none have been quite as successful as Fortnite Battle Royale, which reached over three million concurrent players last month, it steadily creeping up on the battle royale kingpin that is PUBG with its offer of a free alternative across console and PC.

The BAFTA Game Awards will see the pair facing off in two categories: best evolving game, and best multiplayer.

Fortnite Battle Royale

Other nominees in the best evolving game category are Overwatch, mobile battle royale game Clash Royale, Final Fantasy XV, and Rainbow Six Siege. While other nominees in the best multiplayer category include VR spectacular Star Trek: Bridge Crew, Nintendo’s Splatoon 2, beat-‘em-up Gang Beasts, and Divinity: Original Sin 2.

It could be these titles that snatch the prize from under the nose of Fortnite and PUBG.

Other BAFTA Game Award categories include best game performer, narrative, mobile game, game beyond entertainment, artistic achievement, British game, and game innovation.

The BAFTA Game Awards will be held in London on April 12. For the full list of nominees, click here.
