You can unlock a gun in Red Dead Redemption 2 by playing GTA Online right now

Rockstar are letting players prep for some wild west gunslinging with a new unlockable weapon in Grand Theft Auto Online, which will transfer into Red Dead Redemption 2 upon its release. The Double-Action Revolver is a fancy golden gun with even fancier engravings unlocked as part of a treasure hunt in the recent Doomsday Heist update.

Check out the list of major upcoming PC games.

The treasure hunt itself went live last Friday, with players receiving an in-game email pointing them toward clues in a set of randomly chosen locations which lead to to the gun itself. Reddit has some help on getting started, if you need it. Once you’ve got the revolver, completing the 50 headshot challenge with it will give you $250,000 in GTA Online and unlock the gun for use in Red Dead Redemption 2.

The RDR2 unlock works even in the PC version of GTA Online, but Rockstar’s own announcement only mentions the upcoming western heading to “PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.” Rockstar’s Social Club would easily allow for this kind of unlock to be cross-platform, so you shouldn’t take getting an unlock in PC GTA5 as confirmation that you’ll be playing Red Dead anywhere but consoles. Not yet, anyway.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has a vague “spring 2018” release date, and all we’ve seen of it so far comes from a handful of cinematic trailers. Rockstar are in a position where their games are so popular they barely need to market them, so who knows how much more we’ll see before the actual release date. But it’s looking likely that a PC version of the game will at the very least be delayed from its console counterparts.
