Serious Sam VR introduces a skill tree for the first time in the series

Serious Sam VR skills

Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope, Croteam’s chaotic Early Access murderfest, received an update on Friday that brought with it some major changes and a first for the series: skills and weapon power-ups.

Blow up more stuff with our list of the best FPS games on PC.

Our pal Sam has learned some new tricksor, at least, he’s now able to learn them. Yes, this is a Sam we haven’t seen before, a man capable of growing from his experiences, even if that just means he discovers new ways to cause mayhem and slaughter enemies.

So with this update, Sam’s got a skill tree full of passive and active abilities that can be purchased in the shop alongside guns and ammunition. Points are accumulated by completing planets, with higher difficulty levels conferring more of them. Ok, that’s the boring stuff out of the way. What about the abilities themselves?

Orbital lasers! Plasma cannons! The ability to slow down time! An army of spiders! Wait… surely that’s something you’d want to avoid? Even if you want to avoid the creepy crawlies it seems like a beefy list. If you just want to sit back and watch the carnage for a minute, why not pop down some mini-gun turrets? Great stuff.

The update also brings with it the option to attempt perfect runs in an effort to upgrade weapons. You’ll get one weapon upgrade for every planet you finish on every difficulty level.

Serious Sam VR’s Skills and Power-Ups update is live now.

Cheers, PC Gamer.
