SimCity for Mac due for August 29 release, free for PC version owners

Sometimes, and you’re going to have to bear with me here, but sometimes it’s no bad thing to be lumbered with the platform on which ported PC games are at best an afterthought, at worst a nice idea soon cancelled. For when SimCity launches more than two months behind schedule on Mac at the end of the month, there will be no server fires. The traffic will not resemble the Great Panic of Max Brooks’ World War Z. The streets will not be slick with bugs and faeces.

Mac gamers: we’re happy that we could take the brunt of the mistakes on this one for you. Really: it’s the only consolation we have.

Five month release date disparity aside, EA are doing a lot right with this release. Already own SimCity on Origin? Congratulations – you’ll soon be the proud owner of a brand new Mac version too.

What’s more, cross-platform functionality means that Region play can spring up between SimCity’s two versions. Leaderboards will also be shared, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Are you still playing SimCity? If not, will the promise of playing it on a £1000 laptop bring you back?

Thanks, Destructoid.
